T-Mobile has expanded its internet plan lineup with a faster new option after recently spotting a concerning customer trend.
In the third quarter of 2026, T-Mobile added 274,000 new postpaid accounts, according to its most recent earnings report. This is 31% less than the number it added a year ago. Meanwhile, its postpaid account churn (the percentage of customers who ended their service) rose to 1.09%, up from 0.97% a year ago.
On an Oct. 28 earnings call, T-Mobile Chief Financial Officer Peter Osvaldik said that the carrier’s broadband business faced a high level of customer losses.
“The makeup of postpaid accounts and 5G broadband and fiber-only accounts churning predictably as they always do at a higher level structurally than postpaid phone churn itself,” said Osvaldik.
He said that T-Mobile’s acquisition of UScellular in 2025 has contributed to higher churn during the quarter and will continue to do so for the rest of the year.
T-Mobile introduces new fiber internet plan for customers
As T-Mobile sees more customers pull the plug on broadband service, it has added a new offering to its fiber internet plan lineup.
The company has launched a new Fiber 5 Gig plan priced at $90 per month, with its $10 autopay discount applied. It offers the fastest speed among its fiber plan options.
On T-Mobile’s website, the company states that its Fiber 5 Gig plan is “built for households with heavy, simultaneous internet use,” such as “multiple 4K/8K streams, large file transfers, whole-home smart devices, and competitive gaming,” all simultaneously “without slowdown.”
The new plan is now the most expensive tier in T-Mobile’s fiber internet lineup, but it comes with a 10-year price guarantee, which the other offerings don’t have.

Fiber 5 Gig also offers unlimited data and includes a Wi-Fi router and a mesh Wi-Fi extender, with free installation. The plan is available in all 26 states where T-Mobile offers fiber internet service; however, availability varies by market.
To further attract customers to Fiber 5 Gig, T-Mobile is offering a limited-time deal: two months free via two bill credits and $300 in virtual prepaid cards within 14 weeks of signing up.
“Our fastest 5 Gig plan gives customers incredible capacity for everything they’re doing today, with room to grow for whatever comes next,” said Andre Almeida, chief commercial officer at T-Mobile, in a press release. “And with a 10-year price guarantee, customers get peace of mind knowing the price of their internet won’t change for years to come.”
T-Mobile faces growing fiber internet competition
The new Fiber 5 Gig plan from T-Mobile comes after it updated its fiber internet lineup in April. As part of the change, the carrier reduced its fiber internet prices but removed voice line discounts and its 5-year price guarantee from these options.
T-Mobile’s new $90 Fiber 5 Gig plan also beats the price of similar offerings from some of its competitors. Verizon offers 5 Gig fiber internet for $100 per month, with a five-year price lock guarantee. AT&T’s fiber 5 Gig plan is $110 per month, a price it reduced in June.
Both carriers have been successfully gaining fiber internet customers in recent months, especially as they lean more into offering converged wireless and internet services.
Verizon revealed in its latest earnings report that it added 155,000 new fiber broadband customers in the third quarter, which is higher than the 61,000 it added in the same quarter in 2025.

AT&T Fiber gained 416,000 new customers in the third quarter, up 44.4% year over year, according to its most recent earnings report.
Despite recent broadband customer losses, T-Mobile also saw growth in its fiber internet business, though it didn’t disclose how many new accounts it added.
T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan said on the company’s October earnings call that the carrier’s fiber internet business saw “year-over-year acceleration” in customer growth in the third quarter.
“We’re well on track towards our target of 3 million to 4 million customers by 2030,” said Gopalan.
T-Mobile’s decision to offer 5 Gig fiber internet at a lower price with a 10-year price guarantee comes as consumers nationwide become more sensitive to high internet prices.
According to a survey from Reviews.org in March, about 39% of Americans said that price increases after a promotional period ends are what frustrates them the most about their internet provider.
Also, about 30% have either canceled or downgraded their home internet service in the past 12 months due to cost.
Amid this shift in customer behavior, a BNP Paribas Equity Research analysis in June revealed that the pricing environment in the broadband industry is deteriorating due to increased competition from fiber, fixed wireless access and satellite internet providers.
“The US market is in flux: the last year has seen new plans, price locks, convergent offers, price cuts and more,” said Sam McHugh, a US equity analyst at BNP Paribas Equity Research, in the analysis.
